NORTH SHORE BEACHES

Kalihiwai Beach - Best access is by going down Kalihiwai Road closest to Kilauea and following it down to the end. There is parking at the beach, but facilities are limited.

Anini Beach Park - Great place to take the kids as this bay is protected by a long reef. There are picnic tables and restrooms. Get there by taking the Kalihiwai Road closest to the Princeville Airport, take the left fork as you go down the hill.

Hideaways Beach - Wear your hiking shoes and get ready for a very steep climb down... and back up again. But if you're up for the hike, it's a beautiful little beach for a picnic. Access is between the chain link fences between the Princeville Resort Parking lot and Pua Poa condominiums. Note, there are no facilities at this beach.

Pu'u Poa Beach - on Hanalei Bay at the Princeville Resort. Beautiful beach, usually calm waters and refreshments are available at the nearby pool area of the resort. Public walking access to the beach is via a cement path that begins near the Princeville resort gatehouse.

Black Pot - at Hanalei Pier - Located at the end of Weke Road in Hanalei. Public restroom facilities and parking available.

Hanalei Pavilion Beach Park - Located on Weke Road in Hanalei. Public restroom facilities and a lifeguard on duty.

Ha'ena Beach Park - Easy public parking, facilities and lifeguard on duty. Park here and hike along the beach to access Tunnels Beach where snorkeling is said to be world class.

Ke'e Beach - at the end of the road on the north shore. This is a great place to snorkel on calm days when the reef protects the beach from high waves. There are parking spots available, but get there early as the lot does completely fill by mid day. This area also serves as the trailhead for the Kalalau Trail along the NaPali coastline. Restrooms and showers are available.

Other fun things to do at the beach:
  • Take a Surfing Lesson
  • Go Deep Sea Fishing
  • Rent a Kayak
  • Windsurf
  • Get certified for Scuba Diving
  • Go whale watching

SAFETY REMINDER: Kauai's North Shore beaches are famous for their big winter waves. If you want to swim in the winter, it's best to explore the protected areas in Hanalei or Anini. Remember the local's rule... Never go in the water unless there are people already swimming. Also, never turn your back on the ocean, you never know when a big wave might sneak up on you and wash away your new beach towel.
